A rejuvenating seaside wood-fired sauna that boasts views out to sea has launched on the beach at Oxwich Bay, Swansea, offering a sauna experience like no other. Ty Sawna is an independent wood-fired barrel sauna run by 31-year-old Harri Barker, which opened its doors for the first time on this month.Seating up to eight people, it is fueled by an integrated wood burning stove and aims to help people relax into a meditative space, to connect with nature and quiet your mind, all whilst taking in the breathtaking views of waves lapping up the shoreline through the large half-moon glass window.Teasing its launch in late September, Harri wrote on the sauna's social media page a little of what you can expect: "Picture sitting in a warm, steamy sauna barrel, looking out of the glass window at the grey, stormy skies and the wild ocean waves".
Speaking of this new venture, Ty Sawna's founder, from Cardiff, explains how it all came about: "I was inspired to start this prhe hope to encourage more people to step outside of their houses more regularly and enjoy our incredible Welsh coastline all year round, whatever the weather brings! It's a lovely, grounding space where we can leave technology behind and re-connect with ourselves and our community."
As for why she chose this beautiful cove as opposed to one in Cardiff, she says: "I wanted to bring the sauna to Oxwich bay withr so many people who come to visit year round. I believe that Ty Sawna will benefit a range of people from surfers and wild water swimmers to well-being enthusiasts, locals to the area and visitors passing through, blending into its surroundings just right, snuggled between the sand dunes and the sea."
